This is the start of what I anticipate to be a short series of writings where I revisit the early naughts. I naturally tend to stray from that time period of my life, both due to the embarrassing nature of being in ones early 20’s and the relentless trauma of that time that I experienced on a personal level.

The early naughts and discourse about it have been haunting me for quite some time. I am going to blame it on a video essay about “The Social Network”, and then a year later I can see the touches of its fashion returning, piece by piece, visible G string by visible G string. And I think now it just feels like it’s a full force ahead,  between fashion trends and a new Superman film, I’m circling back to pop culture of this era in hopes that it helps me make sense of my present. I think we often do this, look to the past to help with our future, let’s not make the same mistakes, etc. I also think that I am looking anew for a moment where it all went wrong for progressive politics and safety, or were we always going to be victim to the rise and strengthening of the far right in Europe and the United States?

What’s in store content wise? Well, I have reviewed the book Girl On Girl- in which the author does a great job of taking us through early naughts celebrity and feminist culture of the time and how thes things either clashed or merged into the warped neoliberal garbage. I think from there we can see the trajectory of the Bimbo feminism and TradWife content we see today. I am not writing on the topics as much as sharing where to go for a good analysis of it. I will write about the latest Superman film and Smallville:: There are going to be some spoilers; the early naughts fashion was terrible for the straight girls and you can never make me change my mind. Also the Reggaeton that nurtured me and Reggaeton that is battling me now. There’s space for some writing on The Handmaid’s Tale but not really about the series; more about the book and the function is serves as a well researched piece of literature.

Another two books that I have started that I will eventually write reviews for are Culture Creep by Alice Bolin and 90’s Bitch by Allison Yarrow. There are other titles I saw whilst browsing internets that I look forward to sharing, that are on thee with 90/2000’s culture. Returning to these types of books has been an absolute joy, especially since I have finished my studies and didn’t have anything new to read. I loved what I read during uni, and I would recommend anything off my bibliography but it is a good thing I am consuming new things.

So reader be ware of this- I haven’t seen any new art expo’s in the city that are calling my attention, but I do hope that changes. The Artist Way calls for us reader to go on an art date with yourself, and see a new show. I need to commit to that but there’s nothing yet. See you soon!
